The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is a free & unbiased counseling program, provided by the Indiana Department of Insurance and the Administration on Community Living, to serve Medicare beneficiaries in Indiana. We are part of a federal network of State Health Insurance Assistance Programs located in every state. SHIP provides health insurance counseling for people with Medicare. All of our services are free.
SHIP is not affiliated with any insurance company or agency and does not sell insurance. We are staffed by a crew of volunteer counselors who have completed intensive training to offer you free and objective assistance in complete confidence. Click the links below to see what SHIP can do for you.
Helpful Hints
If you were denied access to a service by your Medicare Advantage plan, you can find out how to appeal this denial under the Med. Adv. plans heading on the home page.
You may be able to overturn a denial of a prescription drug by appealing to your insurance plan. Refer to “Appeal Denied Coverage” under Drug Plans on the home page.
If you lose Extra Help benefits for your Medicare drug plan, you have a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) to switch from either your Medicare Advantage plan (with drug coverage) or Part D plan. This SEP begins the month you are notified by the plan of the Extra Help loss and continues for two months. Use the plan finder in Medicare.gov to determine if another plan is more affordable. Coverage under a new plan begins the first day of the month after you apply.
